Open Space

Open Space Director

In 2002, Allamuchy Township created the position of Open Space Director. The Open Space Director is tasked with maintaining an inventory of open space within the Township, increasing public awareness of the availability of open space areas for recreations purposes and promoting the appropriate use of these areas, suggesting rules and regulations concerning use of open space areas, observing and monitoring open space areas, serving as a liaison with the state and county agencies with respect to open space issues, and reporting to the governing body and informing it of any issues and events affecting or pertaining to open space issues.

  • Display of Open Space information in the Municipal Building and kiosks throughout the Township
  • Partnership with and membership in organizations such as the Musconetcong River Management Council
  • Articles about local Open Space items of interest

Specific projects that the groups have partnered on include:

  • Stabilization of the Allamuchy Freight Depot and its application to be placed on the National and State Historic Register
  • Creation of the Allamuchy Township Nature Trail
  • Creation of a wetlands rain garden and wildlife habitation site in detention basin by the firehouse (pending recognition as a Certified Wildlife Site)
  • Wetland garden at Mountain Villa School
  • In partnership with Allamuchy Mountain State Park, mapping and marking out of Allamuchy Pond Trail
